• Only true flying mammal
• Nocturnal
• Most common species in Georgia are the little brown bat and the big brown bat
• Shiny brown
• Eats insects; can eat several hundred insects every hour
• Roosts in buildings, barns, hollow trees, under rock and wood piles; hibernate in caves and mines
• Little brown: 2 ½ -4 in. long
• Weighs less than ½ oz.
• Big brown: 4-5 in. long
• Weighs ½ to 1 oz.
• 11-13 in. wingspan
