House Flies

OVERVIEW

• Most common of all domestic flies
• 1/4 in. long
• Gray with 4 dark longitudinal stripes on top of the thorax
• Red compound eyes
• Can only take in liquid foods
• Spits out saliva on solid foods to predigest it
• Feeds on decaying organic matter, feces, open sores, and sputum
• Cannot bite
• Known to carry over 100 different kinds of disease-causing germs
