- Brown or gray and flattened
- Have forcipules, a venomous pincer-like appendage just behind the head
- One pair of legs on each segment of body
- Prefers damp areas such as under leaves, stones, boards, tree bark, mulch, cellars, and bathrooms
- Eats insects and spiders
- Can run very fast
